Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Shouldn't I be able to organize everything myself?
A: Not everyone can have every type of skill set.  Some people find computers easy to deal with, others have no problems maintaining their own cars, or cutting their own hair.  But if you don't have that skill set, you would hire a geek or a mechanic aor a hairdresser.  Hiring a professional organizer is pretty much the same thing.  A professional organizer is objective and experienced and can get the job done quickly and expertly.

Q: I seem to have a hard time letting things go.  Will a professional organizer make me throw a lot of stuff away?
A: The main goals are to help you determine what you truly need and to help you find the best place to put things.  If some things are no longer needed, the PO will help you find "good homes" for them so that there is no waste.  In addition, the PO will help you find ways to keep unwanted things out of your life, such as junk mail.  See this link for more information.

Q: I 'm really embarrassed about my mess.  How can I let anyone see it, let alone a professional organizer?

A: Not to worry.  Professional organizers have chosen this field to help people who don't have the resources (expertise, objectivity, and time) that we have, and we love our work.  All client information is kept strictly confidential, in compliance with the code of ethics of the National Association of Profession Organizers.  See this link for more information.

Q: I am concerned about whether I afford to hire a professional organizer.  How much will it cost?
A. When you calculate the cost of gas it takes to run out and buy a last-minute birthday gift...or the cost of a take-out dinner because the fridge is empty...for the cost and hassle of getting a duplicate car title for the one that's lost...or the late fees you've had to pay...you could actually save money.

Q: How long does it take to get organized?

A: An Extra Hand Organizing offers three basic work style options – a) assess your needs and devise an action plan  that you execute on your own, b)  do all the work necessary to meet your goals, or c)  work together with you. The time it takes to get organized mainly depends on which option you choose and how complex the areas are that need to be organized.
